Shopify product image size: keep your catalogue visually consistent
A 2048 x 2048 px square working canvas is a useful starting point for many Shopify themes. Test it in your own storefront because theme crops vary.
Resize a product image locally
Use the Shopify preset to prepare a square master from an existing product image. It works in the browser and does not send the file to a server.
Catalogue consistency checklist
- Choose one aspect ratio for main product images in a collection.
- Keep the product scale consistent from one card to the next.
- Use detail images to show material, scale, and variant differences.
- Test product cards, collection pages, and mobile views after upload.
Theme-specific cropping
Your theme decides how product media appears in cards and galleries. A square master usually gives the most flexibility, but the live storefront is the only valid test of the crop.
